Management of #Portfolios (MoP) highlights that the portfolio definition and delivery cycles are driven by #organisational energy. As part of our most recent collaboration with Milvio D and Alesandra Sainty to simplify P3M concepts, our latest infographic describes the concept of “organisational energy” and suggests techniques for management to mobilise energy in their teams.
Drawing on the work of Bruch and Vogel, MoP reminds us that organisational #energy is a finite resource that can be measured. Organisations can differ in their energy in two dimensions – quality and intensity. Combining the two dimensions results in four different energy states that can exist in varying combinations at any one time within an organisation. These four states can be shown in a matrix. The goal for management is to understand the current energy state and provide shared #vision, clear #leadership and ignition for energy sources to move teams toward the productive quadrant. Sources of energy are connection, content, context and climate.
Do you relate to any of the energy states we have outlined? Have you ever seen orgnisations successfully implement initiatives to increase organisational energy? Have you ever worked in the productive quadrant? Let us know in the comments….
