As a Project Sponsor, how adept are you at selling your vision?
Effectively communicating your vision for a project and getting your Project Manager, Delivery Team and Organisational as a whole on board is no easy task. Fail to connect with your audience and they won’t personally care about your vision, oversell it and you risk turning people off.
Here are 3 tips to help effectively communicate your Project Vision:
1. Think about your audience – step back and think about what do they know about the current status or the future goal? What objections you’re likely to receive and how might you answer them?
2. Target the message – What’s the “Why”, what is the problem or opportunity the project is addressing? How is the vision personally relevant to them? How can you use storytelling to enhance your message?
3. Point the way – describe how to convert the vision into action, what are the specific measurable goals and deadlines, what’s the next step?
A Project vision needs to be communicated clearly, simply, and most importantly frequently. When you’re starting to get tired of hearing yourself talk about the project vision, that’s an indicator that you’re on the right path, keep going….
